Jen McClure, CEO
Jen McClure is CEO of JEM, overseeing the company's consulting and advisory services, research and media businesses. Jen has extensive management experience at public and private companies, in the media and technology industries, as well as in the nonprofit sector. Prior to founding JEM, Jen was vice president of digital and social media for Thomson Reuters, where she founded and led the company's Digital Center of Excellence, responsible for digital and social business strategy, transformation, enablement, digital governance and risk management. She also led the Digital Communications team, responsible for global internal and external communications across digital channels, including web, social media, the employee intranet, internal digital signage, as well as the coordination of the company's quarterly earnings communications and annual report. She previously held roles at Ziff-Davis, Ketchum, New Electronic Media Science, the Hudson Valley Business Journal and Rhythm & News/NOW! magazines.
Jen is considered to be one of the original authorities on digital and social media. She has spoken and written extensively, and advised corporations, nonprofits and NGOs on digital and social media strategy and best practices digital transformation, digital governance and risk management, cybersecurity and data privacy, marketing and communications, and digital due diligence for M&A.
In 2005, she founded the Society for New Communications Research (SNCR), a nonprofit think tank focused on studying the impact of new and emerging communications tools and technologies, including digital, social media, and mobile on business, media, and society. She served as president and board chair for 11 years. In 2016, she led the merger between SNCR and The Conference Board. She now serves as Distinguished Principal Fellow of The Conference Board and directs The Conference Board’s Council on Social Media.
Jen is a National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Governance Fellow, and serves on the NACD's steering committee for emerging companies. She currently serves on the board of directors of KQED and Brighter Children. She chairs the advisory board of Stanford Women on Boards and is a member of the advisory board for How Women Lead - Silicon Valley. Jen previously served on the board of directors of the Observer Publishing Company until its acquisition by Ogden Publications in 2018. She led Proofpoint's Digital Risk Management Customer Advisory Council, was a member of Adobe's Marketing Cloud Customer Advisory Board, Cisco's Learning Network Strategy Committee, the UN's Population Fund (UNFPA) Social Media Advisory Council, the Future Arts & Media Node of the Millennium Project Advisory Council and the board of directors of Saint Vincent's Day Home.
Jen earned her Master’s degree at Stanford University, her Bachelor's degree from Sarah Lawrence College, and a graduate certificate in History, Politics and Society from the University of Oxford's Exeter College.
